Melbourne Cup... Love it or hate it you cannot deny that it inspires some amazing fashion. After recovering from the mania of Derby Day, I was extremely excited to attend and photograph the style at my first Cup Day!
My favourite fashion moment of the day has to be when I saw who won Myer Fashions On The Field - Olivia Moor, alongside her sister Charlotte as runner up. I had photographed these girls on Derby Day too, as they had looked so incredible. But the best part is that on both occasions they were dressed head to toe in their mother's designs*! Ali Moor, you are a true talent.
The most popular designers I saw were Thurley, who created some beautifully embroidered pieces, and Cristahlea, who used classic floral prints to offset clever crystal embellishments.
Best headpieces came from Viktoria Novak, whose intricate yet understated crowns are popular among the most stylish celebrities. I was also really into Scherri-Lee Biggs' headpiece, which was actually her grandmothers old necklace. Bags of the moment were by Olga Berg - the colourful pop-art clutches really stood out.
The hottest colour trend was definitely RED. There was so much of it! This was also the consensus following the most recent international fashion shows (I particularly loved it at Valentino!); so if you're going to invest in a colour over Summer, make it the most passionate hue of all.
Last but not least, the cool places to be were the Lavazza and Myer marquees in The Birdcage. I highly recommend them for Oaks and Stakes days coming up - especially if you need to escape the ever-changing Melbourne weather. However if you can't get there, The Park is also a ton of fun and has a bit of a festival vibe going on.
